Experience and Expertise
Hello! My name is Zachary Runyan, but I go by Zach. I decided to open my own CPA firm to use my knowledge and experience to help people with their accounting & tax needs, whether that is personal or business. My objective is to provide a personalized and tailored solution meaning that you can be as hands on (or off) as you would like. I complete as much work as possible, so that you can focus on what you want to do. I am a down to earth person who calls it like it is. I believe in honesty and not just selling you something you don't need.
My firm is currently owned and operated by me only. Presently my firm is virtual, this means most initial consults and client meetings will take place over zoom. I will meet at your place of business or in the community, if local within 30-50 miles from Canon City, Colorado. Plans for a dedicated office space are anticipated for 2025-2026. Until then, meetings in person at the physical business location (my personal residence) are by appointment only. Although my business location is my primary residence, I have a dedicated and secure office space separate from my house.
I have over 15 years of experience in business, accounting, finance, and tax from various industries including non-profit, for-profit, government/military, higher education, and healthcare. I have served as a Controller for small and large organizations (up to 500 million annual gross revenue). I previously served in the military as a medic in the Navy, but I decided to go into accounting/finance after my service.
My prior experience includes business management, strategy and planning, payroll processing, accounting/bookkeeping, data analytics, internal control development, policy and procedure development, budget management, financial statement preparation, and taxation. I have implemented and used several accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, and NetSuite. I have implemented and used accounts payable/expense management systems such as Bill.com and Certify.
I hold a license as a Certified Public Accountant in Colorado. I am a Certified Fraud Examiner (member of ACFE) and a public notary in Colorado. I hold two master's degrees: Master of Accountancy (specialization in financial accounting) and Master of Business Administration (focus in finance). I am also a ProAdvisor QuickBooks Online certified.

I am a member of the American Institute of CPA's (AICPA) as well as Colorado Society of CPA's (COCPA).
Personalized Services
Every person and business has unique accounting and tax needs. My firm's goal is to provide services that meet your specific goals. This means a solution that makes sense and drives value. Ultimately, I want to understand your pain points, find solutions, and be your strategic accounting/tax partner. My goal is to provide you the opportunity to be as hands on (or off) as you would like. Meaning that you will have more time to do what you want to do, instead of focusing on accounting and tax.
I also believe in transparency about what I offer, while trying to simplify the decision-making process. My general fee structure ranges from $75 per hour to $250 per hour depending on the service (mainly with fixed fee and project-based fees depending on the service - hourly fees are used on a case-by-case basis). I try to take the complexity of the work into consideration with my fees. I provide my general prices for most common services in the downloads area below. I am also open to discussing other arrangements or pricing structure, as appropriate.
At this time, I am not charging an initial individual or business consultation fee. Those consultations are typically 30 minutes in length. I will determine if I am able to help you, and if not, then I will let you know.

I am a licensed CPA firm in Colorado, and my focus are individuals and businesses primarily located in Colorado. If you plan on moving out of Colorado for the foreseeable future, then you might not be a good fit. If you are moving to Colorado, schedule a consult!

I understand the unique challenges of being a business owner and running a business. I typically work with businesses ranging from start-ups to medium-sized businesses (less than $15 million revenue yearly). "Simple" Tax Returns and more
I am happy to prepare your individual tax return that only has W2's/1099's or other simple schedules, but there are options available for you do this at a lower cost, sometimes free. If your tax return is a little more complex with items such as rental income, stocks, business income, and/or capital gains then please feel free to reach out!
Do it yourself
I love teaching and explaining accounting/business/tax. I am willing to work with you, if you want to do a portion of the work. This could mean you pay the bills and/or complete payroll, and I record and categorize the transactions. You could even do everything and just need some help/training and tax return prep. Wherever you are on your journey, I am happy to be of assistance and provide my services.
